MEDIC28: Lung

Release Date: 16th April 2012
Formats: Digital EP / 12″ Vinyl

Having signed exclusively to Med School last year, 21-year old Lung brings us his debut solo release on the label. The versatile Cardiff based producer has been making waves in both the D+B and dubstep scenes, releasing on Med School’s “New Blood 011″ and “Blood Pressure” compilations, appearing on BBC Radio 1 Introducing last year and collaborating with High Contrast on his recent album “The Agony and the Ecstasy”.

“Why Does Anyone Ever Do Anything?”, the lead track from the EP, is a brooding, contemplative piece, with string-sections soaring over a deep reverberating bassline and gorgeous, emotive lyrics. The track features Welsh vocalist Rachel K Collier, who has worked with legendary garage producer Wookie on his comeback single, as well as Anjuna Beats’ latest signing Mat Zo.

After this enticing entrée, Lung effortlessly switches down to 140bpm for “Sky People”, a dubstep exploration with wide-open sounds, where booming, bouncy bass plays with sparkling hi-hats and a top layer of melodic bleeps plus breezy snatches of vocal samples.

The first of two digital exclusives, “Asleep In Her Bed” downs tempo again to 120bpm and pairs Lung’s trademark scattered blips with more experimental glitchy percussion, adding distorted samples and background noise to add to the dreamlike feeling. “Complete Me, Completely” punches out into break-laden uplifting dubstep filled with pitched vocals chops and a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The radio edit of “Why Does Anyone Ever Do Anything?” completes the package.

A release pre-occupied with love, hope and expectations with nods to every aspect of EDM, this isn’t an average anthology of floorfillers. This is Lung.
