MEDIC18: New Blood 010
Med School storms into a new decade and continues to push exhilarating up-and-coming artists with some of the freshest rhythms you are likely to hear. ‘New Blood 010′ is an invigorating selection of finger-on-the-pulse boundary-pushing electronic music where only the top sonic surgeons make the grade. These young practitioners have checked your vital signs and are ready to deliver the next prognosis with an array of scalpel-sharp sounds and rhythmical remedies.
A. Synkro “Departure” Making his name primarily through his dubstep/two-step output, Synkro‘s brand of bass driven music has had massive support from Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Martyn, Rusko, dBridge, Instra:mental, Rinse FM and more. Hot-stepping from 140 to 170bpm and effortlessly transcending genres, Synkro delivers a stunningly beautiful and moving piece for Med School complete with stirring vocals and soothing pads in full effect… essential listening!
B. Circa “Ida” It’s incredible to think that Circa only discovered drum+bass as recently as 2006. His forward-thinking creations demonstrate the maturity of a seasoned Junglist veteran, with the likes of Blu Mar Ten, London Elektricity, Loxy, Eveson and Nerm (BBC) clamouring all over “Ida”. This elegant track starts at half-tempo before launching into a beautiful syncopated roller characterised by the awesome live quality expressed through intricate percussion and poignant vocal murmurings.
C. Enei “Z Grab” Coming from the same musical hotbed which gave us Bop, Unquote, Mr Sizef, Engage and more, Enei demonstrates the tougher side of the Saint-Petersburg drum+bass sound. “Z Grab” gets the ‘New Blood’ pulse racing with damaging bass oscillations, punching beats and sharp vocal stabs. Enei has gathered wide-ranging support from Ed Rush, Doc Scott, Randomer, Hype, Nu:Tone, Heist, Utah Jazz, Bailey and many others. “Drop!” “Cheap!” “Back!” “Come on!”
D. Helios “First Dream Called Ocean” (Stray Remix) It’s a remix first for Med School as super-cool producer Stray stamps his authority on the Boston-based ambient/electronica outfit Helios. Ravishing keys and captivating atmospherics set the scene, awaiting the arrival of a thoughtfully stripped down beat and deep resonating bass. Londoner Stray is widely tipped to as one to watch as we head in 2010 and his music is finding favour with the likes of dBridge, Sabre, ASC, Data, Kasra, June Miller and Instra:mental.
